Why does this section have a different URL to the rest of the main SLS Website? -
Freeserve, our original ISP, were taken over. The initial new owner was Wanadoo and during 2006 Wanadoo were in turn taken over by Orange. The changed rules and policies imposed by these subsequent owners has made it more and more difficult to add free space whilst remaining with our original web space provider/service host. On 14 June 2006 the main site reached the capacity limit and it proved impossible to create additional fully user configureable web space unless we paid Orange £199.88 pa. The biggest single section is the group of files comprising the library catalogue section and therefore they have been moved to a sub-section.
As the SLS webmaster also runs Island Publishing this section of the site has been moved accross temporarilly into some free web space he reserved for future expansion. It has been made available to the SLS on a fully sponsored basis. As the original web site has been outgrown in the longer term the section may well be moved again but we hope you will bear with us in this time of change outside or direct control.
The issue regarding Orange's policy effectively being anti not for profit groups has, needless to say, been taken up with Orange.
